What are Trail Challenge events and who can take part? : Trail Challenge races are mass-start TRAIL races with a difference. A series of checkpoints define the courses which are run over tracks and trails - the challenge arises from choosing the fastest route between them. All competitors are given a detailed map of the area and an electronic 'finger' (as used in adventure racing) to record your arrival at checkpoints. The electronic 'finger' (also known as a SportIdent dibber) allows us to produce instant results showing your time between checkpoints, giving you hours of harmless fun comparing split times!
Terrain: Knole is National Trust parkland, full of deer and various patches of bracken in full growth, but with a lot of short grass. Some sharp hills and more gradual undulations, the area has many paths, tracks and fenced enclosures making route choice very interesting. Courses avoid the golf course completely – if you are running over/on the golf course, you have gone wrong and you may well have your limbs removed as a consequence. Please leave gates as you found them. Crossing points have been marked to enhance clarity. Do not cross uncrossable fences (double ticked lines) except at marked crossing points. Hundreds of deer are lose in the park. Do not approach them/feed them etc. They will generally see/hear you coming and prance off.
Prizes: Yes! We’ll have a prize table for various age and gender related categories. Presentation will be held in the pub after the last runner is back and the controls are in! Please hang around and be sociable. Only prize-winners who are present will be able to collect, otherwise we go to the next on the results sheet.
Pub: We will meet after the run at the Sennockian, a Wetherspoons pub about 1km from registration. Head into town on main road and fork right at the obvious forking by Waitrose. The pub is just before the traffic lights on the left. Note: Parking in central Sevenoaks is 1gbp between 1830 – 2130 L
Coming? Although it is only “Enter on the Day”, but if you know you are coming, please E-mail or ring so we have an idea of numbers (state 5km or 9km.) for printing the maps. If you can’t decide now, just turn up anyway – we’ll have spare maps.
If you can’t run, you could always help! Let me know – thanks.
Dogs: No dogs in the park except on a lead.
