Saxons O. C. is a friendly and thriving Club, whose main activities
are the organisation of events and the promotion and development of the sport
of orienteering in Kent and the eastern part of Sussex.
If you wish to join Saxons either as a Local or National member, please download, print and fill in the Membership Application Form and send it with your cheque to: British Orienteering, 8a Stancliffe House, Whitworth Road, Dayley Dale, Matlock, Derbyshire, DE4 2HJ. Could you also email the secretary of Saxons (secretary@saxons-oc.org) just to say you have sent in a return to BOF as occasionally notification of new members is not received for some considerable time.
Please read the following paragraphs concerning the relative benefits of Local and National membership.

Please note that the information on the membership form ("A family is any unit of at least two people, adult or junior") does not mean you need to have a minimum of one junior to be a family unit.
**If joining as school or scout group, club etc our treasurer will send your school or group an invoice for £20 for one year’s membership with the bank details. Just an email will do, there is no need to fill in the membership form. The invoice can be sent electronically but please would you give your full name and the full name and address of the school or group to which the invoice should be sent. Could you also email the secretary (or copy her in to the email to the treasurer) – secretary@saxons-oc.org so that your group can be added to our membership list and to ensure you receive all the benefits of being a Saxon member! To contact the treasurer email treasurer@saxons-oc.org you will then receive a card to present at events so that your junior club members and shadowing (coaching) senior members can run free. When entering events a list of all those taking part is needed for insurance purposes.
If you are joining as a brand new member (i.e. you have never joined an orienteering club before), you do not pay the British Orienteering element of the fee for the first year. Therefore the fees for both National and Local British membership will only include the Saxon element for new members. The fees in this case would be:

All the above fees cover an orienteering year which generally starts in September. If you join for the first time in September 10 you will not have to pay again until Jan 2012 – getting three months free membership from Saxons and one year free BOF membership.
Various types of Local or National membership are available, and prospective members should select the type that best fits their requirements:
A local British Member can compete in all events, all over the country except the British Orienteering Championships (you have to be a National Member to comptete at the British Champs). However if you attend events outside the South East Orienteering Association area (SEOA) you will have to pay £2 extra per event. Follow the link to find out what area is covered by SEOA.
A National British Member can compete in any event all over Britain, including the British Champs and will never have to pay a £2 surcharge anywhere in the country.
You will receive a card to prove you are a member and will have to produce this at all events when you enter on the day. If you pre-enter (by web for example) you just quote you BO number to get the discount.
The Club is affiliated to the South
East Orienteering Association (SEOA), the regional body which co-ordinates
the sport in SE England and the British
Orienteering Federation (BOF), the national body, which co-ordinates activities
within the UK and represents the sport on the world stage.
The nature of the sport means that membership of an orienteering
club is beneficial and Saxons warmly welcomes members of all ages - individuals,
families and groups (Schools, Scouts/Guides, etc). At events, courses are available
to suit all ages (including children) and levels of expertise and fitness. Indeed,
at some events, a 'string course' may be provided where younger children can
follow a taped route between picture 'controls'.
The Club organises around 20 orienteering events a year, and membership
of Saxons allows members to attend these,
take part in Club Team competitions and other activities, buy Club sportswear
and receive bi-monthly, the Club magazine "SaxAlert".
Organising orienteering events usually requires the assistance
of a number of helpers. All adult members are expected to agree to help in organising
events from time to time, which most people enjoy. It requires no special expertise,
does not preclude participation in events where help is offered and provides
an added social dimension to membership.
Non-members are welcome to sample up to three events before committing
to local or national Membership.
If you have any queries please do not hesitate to contact Saxons'
secretary via the Contacts Page.
